Default No wheat import this year: Pawar

New Delhi, May 12 (PTI) The government today ruled out importing wheat this year as procurement of the foodgrain is all set to reach 20 million tons against the targeted 15 million tons in the current marketing season. "Though we have a target of 150 lakh tons, we will reach at 200 lakh tons.

If we reach at 200 lakh tons, import will not be required. There is no question," Agriculture and Food Minister Sharad Pawar told reporters on the sidelines of a function organised by industry chamber CII.

The minister said he had discussed with all the state governments and Food Corporation of India regarding wheat procurement and the assessment is based on their feedback. Earlier speaking at the conference, Pawar said wheat procurement has reached 18.
